GB:
This process takes place in a very psychological space, trying to understand this knee vulnerability and new beginning.
I am getting out from under the pain reliever, Dilaudid. I'm in a fragile space, and art needs distance, so the most I may achieve now is something like journalistic entries.
HS:
I think that the process of repeated documentation of routines could be interesting. The triangle of sound/voice, your body and your ‘eye’ is where I feel that the viewer senses what your experience is like.
How does the idea of broken form is connected to hiding? Broken images, broken text, broken leg, broken loops.

GB:
These are records of my physical therapy home sessions, which I do on my bed twice a day, in order to allow my right leg muscles and knee to begin the first phase of rehabilitation. At the six week mark (I am at one month now) the right knee will begin to model itself on the good left knee, and a new phase of the recovery will begin. I am not sleeping, due to the adjustments my body is making, I can guess, especially the withdrawal now from my body of the pain killers, which I have stopped taking 5 days ago.

HS:
I love that you are talking to your body parts as if it's someone, the fact that there is a distance between equal parts of our body that otherwise should be working in harmony is meaningful to me.

WEEK 2
"30 Days of Dilaudid on Bruce Nauman's Body Pressure."
This is titled for a Matthias Herrmann piece, and is tracking our conversation, in which we talked about how to exploit the boundaries between function and disfunction, what I can do, what I am trying to do, and what happens when I try. This is similarl to Nauman's repetition of actions that, over time, resulted in mistakes that built tension, informing his work and the questions about his role as an artist.

WEEK 1
Gretchen Bennett, a Seattle artist, is housebound due to a knee injury. I and Klara Glosova (NEPO House) went to visit Gretchen at her home. When we arrived, we let ourselves in and went to her bedroom where we spent the remaining of our visiting time sitting on her bed, talking and eating Banh Mi sandwiches Klara had brought.
At some point in between jokes, I suggested that it may be a great pastime for her to host some sort of a podcast or radio show, 'In The Bedroom with Gretchen Bennett'. Klara added that a friend's pet bunnies can make for great guests in one of the shows.
Anyway, a few days later, I checked in with Gretchen to see if she was really interested in the idea, and if so that I would post it here. So here we are! I'm pleased to present Gretchen's first short video with Rumi Koshino. The film is made in dialog with an August 2013 BookForum review by Meehan Crist on Rebecca Solnit's The Faraway Nearby.
